PLANE AND VERTICAL is a graphic design studio and publisher based in Seoul. The studio was founded in 2019, followed by the launch of our publishing imprint in 2021. 
We work across a wide range of materials and technologies—from the flat to the spatial, from form to context. We have a deep interest in addressing and responding to the issues of our time through design, publishing, and other creative practices. Our work focuses on identifying and capturing the various potentials of visual language around the intersection of culture, industry, and art. Our practice in artistic publishing that resembles bas–relief sculpture aims to amplify marginalized voices and shed light on overlooked phenomena in society. By bringing together artists, scholars, writers, architects, and designers, we cultivate a collaborative synergy that allows us to engage deeply with independent communities, explore contemporary topics in unconventional ways, and continually pose questions to ourselves—as a living manifesto. 플레인앤버티컬은 그래픽 디자인 스튜디오이자 출판사(2021-)입니다. 디자인과 출판을 통해 동시대의 문제와 시각 언어의 가능성을 탐구하며, 다국어 뉴스레터이자 문화예술 종사자들을 위한 실험적 플랫폼인 Soft Hard를 운영하고 있습니다.

PLANE AND VERTICAL’s secondary brand, Soft Hard is an experimental, multilingual publication that serves as both a newsletter and a creative playground for cultural workers. Each issue invites a wide range of professionals—designers, architects, artists, curators, writers, and independent publishers, among others—from diverse cultural backgrounds. The publication features a loose and non-linear structure, along with a quick turnaround time, in an effort to remain fresh and relevant to our constantly evolving interests and circumstances.
Founded and published by Yuseon Park and Immanuel Yang of PLANE AND VERTICAL. 플레인앤버티컬의 세컨드 브랜드 Soft Hard는 다국어 뉴스레터이자 출판물로, 문화예술 종사자를 위한 실험적 플랫폼입니다. 디자이너, 건축가, 예술가, 큐레이터, 작가, 독립 출판인 등 다양한 문화적 배경의 창작자들이 참여하여, 리서치의 단편, 미완의 시도, 작업의 부산물 등을 생동감 있는 형식으로 출판하고 유통합니다. Soft Hard는 각기 다른 배경의 창작자들과 긴밀히 협업하며, 독립적인 공동체와 소통하는 출판 방식을 지향합니다. 또한 느슨하고 비선형적인 구조를 통해 변화하는 관심사와 환경에 유연하게 대응하고자 합니다.
창간호는 “대화 중”을 주제로, 창작 과정 속에서 형성되는 연결과 대화를 성찰했습니다. 이어 발간될 2호는 “Side”를 주제로, 기존 작업을 지탱하는 사유, 주변부에서 발생하는 활동, 병행 중인 프로젝트, 정치적, 윤리적 질문 등 창작자가 놓인 다양한 측면을 함께 사유합니다.
