Typojanchi 2019: 6th International Typography Biennale
On Plants is a multisensory installation that reimagines language through the interplay of light, sound, and typography. Letters circulate between spaces and non-spaces, forming a continuous landscape that invites viewers to engage in a visual stroll. The installation includes two parts: Type Forest and Variable Type Show. Type Forest brings together nine writing systems—Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Thai, Hebrew, Devanagari, Chinese, Kana, and Hangeul—into a typographic environment where scripts coexist beyond cultural boundaries. Variable Type Show presents a motion-graphic film made with adjustable variable fonts, offering a visual and auditory experience to viewers seated on bean bags within the space.

PLANE AND VERTICAL is a design studio and publisher based in Seoul. The studio was founded in 2019, followed by the launch of our publishing imprint in 2021. We work across a wide range of materials and technologies – from the flat to the spatial, from form to context.
We have a deep interest in addressing and responding to the issues of our time through design, publishing, and other creative practices. Our work focuses on identifying and capturing the various potentials of visual language around the intersection of culture, industry, and art.
Our practice in artistic publishing that resembles bas–relief sculpture aims to amplify marginalized voices and shed light on overlooked phenomena in society. 
By bringing together artists, scholars, writers, architects, and designers, we cultivate a collaborative synergy that allows us to engage deeply with independent communities, explore contemporary topics in unconventional ways, and continually pose questions to ourselves—as a living manifesto.

PLANE AND VERTICAL’s secondary brand, Soft Hard is an experimental, multilingual publication that serves as both a newsletter and a creative playground for cultural workers. Each issue invites a wide range of professionals—designers, architects, artists, curators, writers, and independent publishers, among others—from diverse cultural backgrounds. The publication features a loose and non-linear structure, along with a quick turnaround time, in an effort to remain fresh and relevant to our constantly evolving interests and circumstances.
Founded and published by Yuseon Park and Immanuel Yang of PLANE AND VERTICAL. Soft Hard will soon be launching a new form of platform.

저자 소개
피터 N. 밀러는 뉴욕 바드 대학원 센터에서 학장 겸 문화사 교수로 재직 중이며, 17세기 초 골동품 연구가 니콜라 파브리 드 페이레스크(Nicolas Fabri de Peiresc)에 대한 책 시리즈, 유럽 골동품 연구의 역사, 그리고 사물의 증거를 활용한 현대 연구에 관한 저서를 집필했습니다. 그는 《Dutch New York Between East and West: The World of Margarieta van Varick》(BGC, 2009), 《What Is the Object?》(BGC, 2022), 《Conserving Active Matter》(BGC, 2022) 등의 전시를 공동 기획했으며, 앤드루 W. 멜론 재단의 지원을 받아 BGC에서 10년간 진행해 온 “보존의 문화” 프로젝트를 전시와 웹사이트로 마무리 지었습니다. 그의 주요 관심사는 전문 역사가뿐만 아니라 큐레이터, 보존가, 예술가들이 수행하는 연구의 ‘방법’과 ‘원인’에 관한 것입니다. 밀러는 케임브리지 대학교에서 박사 학위를 받았으며, 하버드 대학교에서 학사 및 석사 학위를 받았습니다. 그는 2001년부터 바드에서 근무했으며, 이전에는 케임브리지 대학교, 시카고 대학교, 메릴랜드 대학교(칼리지 파크)에서 강의했습니다. 또한 런던 대학교 바르부르크 연구소, 베를린 고등연구소(Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin/Institute for Advanced Study)에서 연구원으로 근무했으며, 마르세유 사회과학고등연구원(École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales)과 파리 고등사범학교(École Normale Supérieure)에서 방문 교수를 역임했습니다. 그는 미국 인문학 기금(National Endowment for the Humanities), 구겐하임 펠로십, 맥아더 펠로십을 수상했습니다.
